ALMASI Diamond OA Policy Forum
The ALMASI project (Aligning and Mutualizing Nonprofit Open Access Publishing Services Internationally) seeks to develop a nonprofit, high-quality, and sustainable scholarly communication ecosystem across Africa, Europe, and Latin America. One of the key outcomes of the project is the Diamond OA Policy Forum, which brings together international, national, and local policymakers and funders in three regions to discuss nonprofit scholarly publishing policy and funding needs, progress, and related challenges.
From September to November 2026, the regional Diamond OA Policy Fora will focus on funding Diamond OA, showcasing the strategic funding approaches taken by national policymakers, research funders, universities, and libraries across the three regions, while also highlighting initiatives or models that make funding Diamond OA easier, and allowing enough time for discussion. Then, the cross-regional event will build on these regional conversations, drawing together insights from Africa, Europe and Latin America region to develop a broader international understanding of the challenges and opportunities in funding Diamond OA.
